Dr. Gerald Pech
M.Sc in Electrical Engineering, PhD in Satellite Networking and Communication, Founder and President of Plateforme scientifique Bible & Science, Logos Research Associate
Gerald PECH is 45 years old, married with Jade, and a father of 4 children (5, 9, 14, and 19). He was a French research scientist and head of projects who worked for 17 years from 1997 to 2014 in the space field both in academia and the industry in Toulouse, the European aerospace capital. He designed and developed CCSDS electronic boards for the ground segment of the microsatellite PROTEUS JASON 1 designed and manufactured by the French Space Agency (CNES). He is a professional expert in digital electronics, signal, image and video processing, satellite networking and telecommunications, and FPGA design. Since 2014 he has been working as a senior R&D electrical and electronics engineer and Quality Assurance manager in a French SME which designs, develops, and manufactures innovating electronic equipments performing 4K video compression.
Gerald PECH holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from ENAC, the French Civil Aviation Engineering School, and a Ph.D in Satellite Networking and Communications from ISAE-Supaero, the Higher Institute of Space and Aeronautics located in Toulouse, one of France’s top engineering universities. The topic of his doctoral research was the study of the impacts of high frequency (Ka-band) channel propagation impairments on the network, signal transmission, and system performance of an ATM regenerative satellite multimedia system return channel (DVB-RCS), and the implementation of an adaptive countermeasure technique allowing to guarantee an optimal quality of service (QoS). Within that framework, he developed a network simulator enabling to model the satellite return channel and the channel propagation impairments. The research work resulted in a post-doctorate he did with what was then Alcatel Space Industries (now Thales Alenia Space), a French-Italian company based in Toulouse, which is also the world’s leading manufacturer of telecommunications satellites: the purpose was a technological transfer of his integrated satellite system simulator towards the industry.
In addition to his full time job as an engineer, he is also one of the founders and the current President of a French-speaking Christian think tank and task force called “Plateforme scientifique Bible & Science” (http://science.et.foi.free.fr) which gathers several top-level, internationally renowned scientists and industrial experts, thinkers, theologians, and social economists, as well as ordinary Christian scientists committed to Biblical Creation. The group was created in late 2009 and from that date onwards has been conducting an in-depth reflection on the nature of science, the role of evolutionary science in society and its wide-ranging, tremendous effects on all aspects of life. The group aims at showing to both the Christian and lay public that evolutionary science fails at its deepest core as a successful scientific theory, and that many other scientific theories are actually lacking of solid empirical evidence supporting them. As a consequence, the organization calls for a return to scientific integrity and a healthy debate on what should constitute true science. It also investigates new avenues of alternative, promising scientific theories that can better describe the world as it is. It has organized a Summer University every year since 2010 for its members. Gerald PECH’s interest in apologetical research focuses on cosmology, information theory, semiotics, and general intelligent design theory within a Biblical perspective.
He is the current President of the Evangelical association “Bible & Science Diffusion” (B&SD) created in mid-2018 which is the legal and communication arm of the “Bible & Science” group, and focuses its strategy on reaching out the French public by producing all kinds of apologetical resources: books, videos, commercial DVDs, etc.; and by organizing scientific conferences for Christian churches, with a communication strategy oriented towards the secular media and the political world. As such, B&SD joyfully collaborates with top-level Catholic Creationist scientists who belong to its pool of highly qualified public speakers and participate in its summer universities and public conferences. Such outstanding scientists include, for instance, the sedimentologist Guy BERTHAULT who is well-known in Creationist circles. BERTHAULT carried out outstanding scientific works in sedimentology, which were published by the French Academy of Science in 1986 and 1988, and by the French Geological Society in 1993 (cf. http://sedimentology.fr/), of which he is a member as a sedimentologist. BERTHAULT has expressed his desire to join B&SD as an honorary member.
Furthermore, Gerald PECH is an experimented English/French freelance translator, editor and publisher, with 19 years of experience in translation of scientific and technical documentation, conference articles, and research papers and reports related to a wide range of scientific fields (electrical engineering, information theory, geology, astronomy, cosmology, general physics, theoretical physics, mathematics, biology, genetics, computer sciences, with a professional daily practice in electronic instruments, etc.), as well as to humanities (law, philosophy and theology). He has contributed to the English/French translation of over 900 articles, and he has translated and published 9 Christian theological and philosophical books since 2011, totalizing about 5,000 pages. He created and manages the French publishing house Les Editions La Lumière (http://www.editions-lalumiere.fr/). He will publish a French translation of John Sanford’s The Genetic Entropy and The Mystery of the Genome by October 2019. He will also publish a French version of John Harnett and Alex Williams’s Dismantling the Big Bang hopefully by the end of 2019. The other books he has co-translated and published include, Dr. Douglas Kelly’s Creation and Change: Genesis 1.1 - 2.4 in the Light of Changing Scientific Paradigms; William Craig’s Reasonable Faith; Nancy Pearcey’s Total Truth; Dr. Vern Poythress’s Redeeming Science; John Betz’s After Enlightenment: The Post-Secular Vision of J. G. Hamann.
He has personally developed strong spiritual and partnership ties with Creation Ministries International (CMI) and he occasionally serves as a reviewer to CMI’s Journal of Creation. He will be one of the four professors in residence (along with the renowned apologist John Warwick Montgomery, Craig Parton, and John Feinberg) at the 23rd annual European summer study session of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism & Human Rights which will be held in Strasbourg, France, July 9-20, 2019 (http://www.apologeticsacademy.eu). He has just completed in January 2019 the translation into French of Montgomery’s magnum opus, Tractatus Logico-Theologicus, a powerful defense of the Christian faith.
